Belmopan City, Tuesday, February 18,2014 - Over 20 students and two (2) teachers at the Maya Mopan Pre-school in Maya Mopan Village, and over 200 students of the Richard Quinn R.C. School in the Georgetown Village, Stann Creek District are the proud recipients of newly renovated school buildings. The renovation projects were provided through grants from the BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust. In late October 2013, a grant of $33,239.25 was approved to fund the renovation of the roof for Richard Quinn R.C. School. In mid-November 2013, the Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust provided a grant to the Maya Mopan Village Council in the amount of $45,625.58 for the renovation of the pre-school. The students of these two school will now enjoy an environment that is more conducive to learning. The renovation projects were completed over a two and a half month period.

Student Loan Program Press Release

The Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust announces the expansion of its National Student Loan Program

Belmopan City, Monday, February 3rd, 2014

The BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust announces the expansion of its national Student Loan Program. The Student Loan Program is a partnership with local credit unions and started as a pilot initiative in April 2009 when the Trust seeded an initial investment of $1 million dollars.

This pilot yielded loan facilities to over 600 Belizean students pursuing secondary and tertiary education at local institutions throughout the Country. Today, the Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust is pleases to announce an additional investment of $1.5 million dollars to scale up and expand the program; thereby bringing its total investment to $2.5 million.

The BNE Charitable Trust and Forest Home Village Council Inaugurate Recreational Park

Belmopan City, June 13th, 2013 – The BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust is pleased to have partnered with the Forest Home Village Council to establish a recreational facility for this important community in Toledo.

In mid-March, the BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust, as the principal contributor, provided a grant of $25,000.00 to the Forest Home Village Council to fund the construction of a recreational park. The Forest Home Village Council and several business houses from Punta Gorda Town including Puntagas Company Limited, Romero Charters & Tours, Pro World and Teul’s Grocery also contributed to the project for a total cost of $33,000.00. Construction of the facility commenced immediately after grant approval and was completed over a period of two months.

Background
The Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust (BNECT) is a partnership between the Government of Belize and Belize Natural Energy Limited, established by Deed of Trust dated February 25th 2008. The Trust was established to make a difference in the lives of Belizeans and thus seeks to empower people and communities to thrive in a harmonious, socially and environmentally responsible manner so that they can be the conscious architects of their own future. The Trust’s mission is to serve as a catalyst for people and communities to believe in themselves so they can achieve their full potential.

Since its establishment in February 2008, the BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust received in excess of BZ $13.6 million dollars. Thus far, the Trust has invested in projects focusing on general education and the social environment.

Toledo Students Receive New School Furniture

Furniture Donation to studentsBelmopan City, Wednesday, January 16, 2013 – Over 300 students and 17 teachers of the San Luis Rey RC School in San Antonio Village, Toledo and over 100 students of the PG Methodist School in Punta Gorda Town are the proud recipients of new school furniture. In October 2012, the BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust approved a total of $35,921 to cover the manufacturing cost of 489 pieces of new furniture for over 472 students and 28 teachers of two schools in the Toledo District. The students of these two schools will now have furniture that is safe to sit in, enabling an environment that is more conducive to learning. The locally made furniture were completed over a five week period and in time for the start of the new term. These two projects are two of fourteen projects selected from among a total of 135 applications received in response the Trust’s call for proposals to the 2012/2013 project cycle. The Trust also approved two other grants to partners in Toledo. These two grants will be inaugurated in Toledo in the next few weeks and include a grant to the Forest Home Village Council to upgrade the Forest Home Park and a grant to the Corazon Creek Technical High School to electrify the High School through Solar Energy.

Belize Natural Energy Charitable Trust and Anglican Cathedral College Inaugurate Library

Belmopan City, Wednesday December 12, 2012 – The BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust is pleased to have partnered with the Anglican Cathedral College to establish a fully functional Library for this very important and prestigious institution.

In mid October, The BELIZE Natural Energy Charitable Trust provided a grant of $54,000 to the Anglican Cathedral College (ACC) to finance the renovation works for the establishment of a fully functioning library at ACC. The renovation commenced immediately after grant approval and was completed over a period of eight (8) weeks. Renovation works included repair to parts of the ceiling, tiling of floor, obtaining and assembling of two (2) book shelves, construction of counter for computers, painting of ceiling and walls, construction of bag cubicles, installation of three windows and two doors and installation of air conditioning units. The project also included purchasing of 40 padded chairs and a Librarian workspace. The new library will serve 550 students and will continue to facilitate the educational development objectives of this Institution. The inauguration was held this morning and the guest speaker was the Minister of Education, Youth and Sports, Honorable Patrick Farber.
