“School on Wheels” Mobile Afterschool Tutoring Program

Helping Hands Resource and Intervention Center (HHRIC) is a non-governmental organization located in the capital city of Belmopan whose mission is to serve the individual needs of children to move towards the development of the Belizean society by providing students with academic and literacy intervention support. It also seeks in developing well-rounded, culturally engaged citizens with extra-curricular activities and programs.
The “School on Wheels Mobile Afterschool Tutoring Program” initiative aims at creating a mobile bus classroom to reach out to primary school students in the City of Belmopan and its surrounding communities to provide the much-needed guidance and support, not only to students but to parents as well.
The tutoring program’s core objectives include:
a. To conduct a diagnostic assessment for each learner.
b. To develop a holistic intervention plans to assist the child in closing the
learning gaps.
c. To reconnect with learners and to provide them guidance and support.
d. To minimize the dropout rate.
e. To motivate, guide and support parents in the involvement of their child’s
education and well-being.
f. To promote the use of technology for learning.
The Trust provided grant funding of BZ$14,500.00 to assist with the retrofitting of the school bus that is utilized for the “School on Wheels” program. The tutoring program commenced at the start of the second semester (January 2023).
